June Brings Relief from US Housing Gloom
Ground breakings for U.S. housing rose 14.6% between May and June and 16.7% between May of this year and the same month a year ago. Reed Construction Data says monthly starts have been higher than June’s 629,000 units only rarely over the past two-and-a-half years – in January 2011 and in April 2010 (687,000 units) when the first-time-buyer tax incentive was winding down.
