Profit rises at HSS

Tool and small plant hire specialist HSS has seen earnings rise by 31% to £12.1m in the third quarter and almost 30% in the year to just shy of £30m. Revenue for the three months was 14% higher at £44.6m and the company has brought forward £2m of capital expenditure planned for 2011.

It has 6,000 customers now using its on-line LiveHire system and is continuing its focus on big key account customers although it said no single customer accounts for more than 3% of its business.

Slow stop system prevents forward tip-overs

JCB has introduced Longitudinal Load Moment Control systems on its CE-marked Loadall telehandlers, Teletruks and Telemasters to comply with the EN15000 regulations designed to prevent forward tip-overs which came into effect last month.

Its Teletrucks and smaller telehandlers (5.5m lift height and below) get a simple two-stage (slow/stop) system while the bigger Loadalls and Telemaster telescopic loading shovels get a patented Adaptive Load Control system.

Steel erector fined after near-miss crane accident
