Peninsula water authority backs Cal Am test well appeal, despite slant well misgivings
MONTEREY >> Despite expressing frustration at the mounting time and expense associated with the unproven slant well intake method at the core of California American's proposed Monterey Peninsula desalination plant, the Peninsula water authority board on Thursday unanimously backed the company's state Coastal Commission appeal on the Marina city council's rejection of slant test well program. While some of the mayors agreed slant wells would not have been their preference, they also pointed out that they've been told by regulatory agencies that the relatively new intake process must be fully explored until it is proved to be infeasible, and they agreed they were essentially obligated to support Cal Am's efforts.
