US DOT Provides $745 Million to Upgrade Northeast Corridor Rail
U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood today announced nearly $745 million for rail construction along the Northeast Corridor (NEC) to upgrade some of the most heavily-used sections. Enhanced electrical systems and tracks are expected to increase top operating speeds to 160 mph, initially.
